Abstract

In this study, probability-based empirical methods were used as an alternative approach to predict the uncertainties associated with rock mass properties. The probabilistic spreadsheets were developed and predicted rock mass classification indexes. The histograms that describe the best distribution were plotted in the prediction of rock mass properties. The developed models can also be used to predict the effect of indices of rock mass on rock strength and rock mass classification systems. The statistical analyses show that joint volume, joint spacing, joint frequency and rock strength are the most effective parameters. The statistical analysis reveals that some of the rock mass properties are significantly correlated while some of them are not suited to any type of correlation model.
