Abstract

Arsenic-bearing acidic effluent obtained from hydrometallurgical processes contains many harmful metal ions, and must be well treated before discharging for the environment protection. In the present study, the arsenic, copper, zinc, aluminum and magnesium are co-precipitated during the Fenton reaction process. The precipitates obtained under different conditions were determined to study the stability of the precipitates. The results indicated that pH value and H2O2 dosage have significant effects on the removal of various elements. The arsenic, copper, zinc and aluminum excluding magnesium can be removed under the conditions of pH=5-6, H2O2: As mole ratio (HA) of 2 at normal temperature. The detection results of the precipitates show that the sediment mainly existed in amorphous granular with micron size. The leaching toxicity of arsenic is lower than 5 mg/L, which proves the precipitates are effective in fixing arsenic. The tests indicated that the precipitates can be utilized to fix arsenic and met the TCLP leaching standard.
