Abstract

The significance of the Mine Call Factor has been discussed and debated for several years, with much of the debate being centred around whether the use of the MCF is still relevant in determining the actual performance of the Mine. In theory, the Mine Call Factor was designed to be 100% but when practicality now becomes of concern, evidence shows several ore loss occurrences within the Mine value chain consequently leading to the decrease in the accuracy of the Mine Call Factor. Over the last decade, there has been a significant decrease in the Mine Call Factor to approximately 60% and the question that remains is whether the Mine Call Factor is still relevant in South African gold mining. This paper reviews the application of AI methods to help better understand metal reconciliation.
