Abstract

Energy efficiency, which is today's most popular research topic, is extremely important both in the production and use of energy. In this study, the loading performance of wheel loaders, which is an important energy consumer, was investigated. In terms of energy efficiency, the literature has mostly focused on improving the hydraulic, mechanical and electronic subsystems of wheel loaders or developing strategies for the control of these systems. In this study, the weak side of the literature was focused and the effects of loader operator and different working conditions on loader performance were investigated through field studies. During the fieldwork, which lasted for about 4 months, 808 measurements were made. In the measurements, the effects of monitoring/not monitoring the loader operator, experienced/inexperienced operator, sunny/rainy weather conditions, day/night work, compressed/free material loading and use of loader bucket scale on the loading performance were investigated. When the investigated parameters were evaluated individually, the highest effect on loading performance (63.4%) was determined from the experience of the operator. On the other hand, when the parameters are evaluated together, the effect of the best and worst working conditions on the loading performance was determined as 185.5%. In the study, the loading performances of 5 loaders with 4 different capacities were also examined and the most suitable loader was determined in terms of energy efficiency.
