This paper presents an analysis of the energy consumption according to type of dump scroll track during skip discharging of inclined shaft hoist in an open pit mine. For the purpose of the project it was necessary to set up an equation for a geometrical locus of skip dump scroll track, and from need for technical engineering and study purpose, to derive equations for two track types by using cam design theory (cosine track and linear accretion track). Skip discharging is analyzed by using Discrete Element Method (DEM) software and dynamic simulation of it is run by using Visual Nastran software. The energy consumption during skip discharging can be calculated from the rope tension obtained by dynamic simulation, and graphs needs to analysis are obtained from the simulated results by using DEM and Visual Nastran software.
From this, the study demonstrated that the energy consumption at cosine track is always smaller than that at linear accretion track without regard to property change of payload depending on grain size distribution.
